paddle ouT
We plan to hold a paddle out ceremony in honor of my bother Joey and his love for the ocean. He loved the outdoors, was an avid surfer, and very good fisherman. In our early years, Joey and I surfed the East coast of Florida, the beaches in Los Angeles County, and later made several trips to Central America. These surf adventures created many great memories. So we invite anyone to join, surfer or not, to come splash some water in honor of Joey.
Who
Joey was a big advocate of getting people together. So to do this event in his style, everyone is welcome! We plan to honor Joey but also those in attendance who have lost someone close to them. Let us know if there is someone you're grieving for, or just keep them in mind while your on the beach so we can honor their memory as well.
What
We plan to start our short ceremony on the beach at 9:00am and then head to the water and honor Joey's passion for the ocean with a traditional but casual paddle out ceremony.
The water ceremony will be visible from the beach for those who would prefer to stay on the sand. The water has been warmer in the low 70s. Bring a wetsuit if you want but you probably won't need one for the short ceremony. Bring a board if you have one, but we will have extras for those who need one.
Where
The beach service will take place Marine Ave. Between 21st and 22st streets in Manhattan Beach CA, 90266.
Parking: Street parking can be limited in the area but finding a spot around Marine St and Highland would be you're best bet. Also check the public lot a few blocks north at Bruce's beach.
When
Service will start on the beach Saturday, August 25th 2018 at 9:00am pst.
Why
This paddle out is being held honor Joey as well as to show my love and appreciation for my amazing friends who have helped me navigate this unexpected crossroad.
